Submitted by Ed Brown [e-mail] Experience Pro Location Rural Benefits 25-550 MHz, and full 800-1300 MHz coverage AM, FM, WFM modes AOR made, predecessor of AR2002 Step up from MX5000 Available used for fairly low price Great image rejection (750 MHz 1st IF) 25-550 MHz only Drawbacks Only 20 channels, 1 search range Truly s-l-o-w search and scan, 4 to 5 per second Backlighting is weak, small incandescent bulb one side of display Membrane type keypad, not real buttons Weird 3 pin hexagonal DC power input connector (AORs and some early Hayes Modems used the same) Downward facing internal speaker somewhat muffled Image rejection 800-1300 MHz not so great, that front end is broad, high pass filter only IF is 45.025 MHz; images 90.050 MHz away come in at full signal strength which takes the intf rejection score down one notch Special Good sensitivity Great image rejection Switchable atenuator on back Quite good audio with external speakerM Clock Sensitivity Very good Intf Reject Average Ease of Use Average Audio Quality Average Audio Power Very good Construction Very good Backlight Poor Battery Life N/A User Level beginner Rating 6/10 Buy Again?
