Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA
The Research Triangle Park (RTP) area of North Carolina is formed by the cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. The 'research' portion is due to the LARGE number of Fortune 500 and other companies located in this region which include IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Nortel, Ericsson, Biotech, Cisco, Red Hat, Glaxo Welcomme, Bristol-Myers, and many more.

Other notable cities in the area are Apex, Cary, Morrisville, and Wake Forest.

Another important consideration are the fine colleges and universities which include NC State, Duke University, UNC at Chapel Hill, Meredith, Peace, St. Augustine's, Saint Mary's, Shaw and others.

Travel into the area is accomodated by the large Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) airport (served by America, Delta, US Airways, Air South, Midway) and three US interstate highways (I-40, I-95 & I-85). There is also an Amtrak station in downtown Cary.

Tarheel SW/Scanner Listeners Group
This is a great bunch of guys and gals from the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area of North Carolina. They are dedicated to sharing information on all facets of shortwave and scanner monitoring.

The group holds a net every Monday night at 9:00 on the Raleigh Amateur Radio Society (RARS) 146.640 repeater. Anyone can listen in and if you have 2m amateur radio license priveleges, you can add your own two cents!

The third Monday of every month a meeting is held for dinner, discussion, sharing frequency lists and loggings and getting to check out everyone's newest acquisitions!

If you are interested, contact Bob Zeher, KE4JVY, or Kelly Mills, AE4FG.

Some Frequencies For RTP, NC
Research Triangle Park (RTP) is located in north central North Carolina and is bounded by the cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. RTP itself is composed of many high-tech companies employing several hundred thousand people. Located in the region are several well known colleges and universities as well as the Raleigh-Durham International airport

If you are in the area, here is a list of active frequencies that I have personally logged.

Here's a more extensive list compliled by Tom McKee, K4ZAD and the members of the Tarheel Shortwave/Scanner Listener's Group. It's a self-extracting ZIP file so just download and execute it to get at the files

Marshall Sherard, KE4ZNR, has recently set up some web pages for area agencies. He has pages for Raleigh PD, Raleigh FD, Wake County EMS and Trunking Systems.

The RDU alert page provides details for emergency conditions out at RDU International airport.

There is surely a scanner fan working for Rowan County, NC for they have on their site a comprehensive listing of frequencies throughout the state which is geared toward scanner listeners!

I have also used the PerCon SPECTRUM FCC database to extract all the public safety records in the RTP area:
