You may want to look into better cable as a starting point, namely Times Mirror LMR series. While you have very short runs, and your only ranges in the 30-50 & VHF-H areas v. 450/460 & 800Mhz is a plus in your advantage. You will only gain a few like 1-2db less loss by switching cables. 9913 was a good starting point.

Something you may want to look into is Hamtronics line of pre-amps & helical resonator filters, see: http://www.hamtronics.com/lnp.htm . For VHF you definately want to have a really good receiver or some filter if you use pre-amps with the high powered paging that exists @ 152 & 157/158 in many areas still, especially 152.480 & 157.740 which are large nationwide networks.

Be sure to get as low a noise figure (NF) pre amp as you can, you don't want to add to the noise floor with the preamp, and using the filter/preamp combo will increase the NF about .

I've had good luck using the Hamtronics products on UHF for a simplex UHF tactical channel with a MUCH longer run of 9913 and a Cushcraft UHF yagi.
