The radio has both a discriminator output and a slicer output. Since the radio decodes the control channel it needs a data slicer circuit. The slicer output is internal to the radio since the decoding takes place there but you can tap it and bring it outside the radio. Essentially the slicer circuit can be thought of as a hard limiter applied to the discriminator output, also internal to the radio.

Now, when you bring the slicer output outside of the radio you will still need to extract timing and data from that waveform. Typically, that is being done with various timing routines interacting with a PC's serial port pins. Maybe that is where the confusion is originating; considering the limiter and the timing routines to be the slicer. When I talk about the slicer I am referring only to the discrimnator/limiter circuitry. You should be able to apply the slicer output to a serial port pin and get your program to work. Personally, I would want some kind of buffer between the two just in case, but it should work.
