Hugh, You sound like someone in the know.Question: I currently have a 780 and am trying to track
San Francisco Motorola II. On the control channel
the S- meter goes in and out between 6 and 3 bars
and has crackling sound to it. I can here the voice
but the the noise makes it hard to listen. I have
an Antennex 6 element yagi with LMR-400 cable.
The Yagi is not on a rotary.
I pick up Oakland on Edacs with a constant 6 bars.

Also you mention that you mounted the preamp
on the Antenna? outside?
