The coaxial cable used for an automotive AM/FM antenna has an impedance on the order of 125 ohms, and its length is optimized to give a decent match on FM while minimizing capacitive losses on AM. Its peformance at 800 MHz will likely be dismal. I strongly suggest against this approach. Keep the vehicle antenna optimized for its intended use, and consider a magnetic cellular phone antenna or "stubby" for the scanner. You'll be a lot happier with the result. |
