Disabling banks should only be done when you have selected BANK SCAN. It can be done while scanning or ID scanning. You simply have to hit the SELECT button while you are in LIST SCAN mode to change to BANK SCAN mode, and vice versa.
I learned this the hard way too.
Also, the scanner's 2nd Alpha Tag changes depending on what is selected between Bank and List Scan. If you are in BANK scan mode, the BANK alpha tag shows. If you are in LIST mode, the LIST Alpha tag shows.
