That is right, if you only want SAME Alerts then you must forfeit your scanner to become a $350.00 weather radio sitting on a shelf somewhere.
Also be aware that this weather alert system will not return the radio to "Alert standby mode" after the emergency message from NOAA. You have to manually put WX again to reset the radio back to monitoring for another Alert.
These are a couple of items I'd change if I was UNIDEN! It can't be that hard to do.
