Sharing Time again! Protocol and such!

The BC780XLT as with the 895 and 245 defaults to the 9600 baud rate. To adjust to another baud rate you just use the menu.

Most of the 895 and even some of the 245 protocol is supported.
I will be updating my protocol document at the distribution site for softrol probably on Saturday sometime. The link is: http://www.geocities.com/dfw1417/ for anyone interested in downloading it, it is in word, html, and text format all in one zip file.

Differences noted:

The SG signal command now returns values from 0 - 255 when queried. The 895 returns 0 to 32. The 6 bar display on the 780 is an analog display meaning that it averages the returns and the return form the digital query is instantaneous value meaning that they do not always correlate exactly. As close as I have determined the table goes something like this. Signal value 0-55 digital shows 1 bar, signal 56 - 60 shows 2 bars, signal 61 - 80 shows 3 bars, signal 81 - 95 shows 4 bars, signal 96 - 125 shows 5 bars and any signal over 140 shows 6 bars. With no antenna connected and the scanner on a channel with 0 Mhz frequency the siganl value returned varied from 22 to 39 with no signal bars showing.

The AC command for ALL CLEAR is supported, takes 8-10 seconds to clear and reintialize the 780 and when it initializes it does so with the bottom 2 lines of the LCD off. I woudl say it was screen masked mode except it did'nt look the same as when I issued one of the newly discovered 780 commands LM. LM is issued as either LMF or LMN or LM. LM returns either LMF or LMN depending on whether the mask is off or on. LMF is off and LMN is on. You turn it off or on with either the LMF or LMN command. When you issue it the L M is shown on the screen and I guess that is the screen mask mode previously talked about.

For other familiar with the protocol here is what the 780 supports out of the mix from 895 and 245 in the past.

These are the ones verified so far, there are a couple which
will still require reasearch since they return slightly
different information than previously seen.
