It's Sharing Time!

Ok, since I received mine this morning knew it was coming and took the day off work to take care of my new pet here is what I have found out.

First my interest lies mainly with computer control, documentation and control of the unit. I still know very little about trunking and stay in the conventional world mostly.

I have read through the manual. Overall its nicely done with A LOT of material. I think there should have been a glossary included in the back because most of the things I had questions about was difficult to find in the index and I had to go through the manual page by page to refind it. A glossary would help greatly. The flow chart at the back for the menu was a nice touch. In just the 5 hours or so I messed with it I found an area of the manual that needed another line added, another step if you wish in order to understand and achieve the steps I was trying to do. Then again it could be me too and I'm sure I was in a hurry.

With regards the menu on pages 14 and 15. When I tried to access the 2. Channel Data and sub menu 4. Beep Alert I could'nt get there from the way it was written and the behavoir of the menu I had observed in my previous operations. I pressed 2 for channel data and it brought up the channel 1 that I wanted to add the Beep Alert to but then when I tried to press 4 it went to channel 4. After numerous rereadings and unsucessful attempts I finally got to the place to press 4 but instead I pressed SELECT. Then it offered the menu options and I could assign the beep alert by pressing 4 to that channel. I just made a note on page 15 to press Select again when on the channel I wanted to perform the function on. The manual just said choose the channel number and since I took choose as to mean get the number on the screen I could'nt get where I needed. Enough said about that. Just remember to press SELECT and all will be fine.

I really liked the FIPS/SAME code ability to assign to the weather channel for my county alerts. Very nice.

The manual is great it will take some time to scan and do anything with though so I see why no one has it posted yet.

One other comment in the manual it says you can goto www.bc780xlt.com for tips info and faq's and the way it talks about that site its really something special but ALL THAT'S THERE still is a TEMPLATE PAGE and no Info! Oh, well maybe next year.

Take care. All. Wayne.
