The delay setting is really a personal preference.
I don't use any delay for my trunked monitoring.
If you are monitoring very busy systems then you may want to use it because the chances of you missing a response can be greater.
Do some experimenting with scan lists and really narrow down the talkgroups you are interested in and, most likely, you may not need any delay settings.
Also, I generally leave unused channels locked out.
