Guys, relax. I have no heartburn with any of the posts on this board. It is not a problem for folks with honest concerns about the radio's performance to bring them up here so everybody can learn about them and maybe get their concerns dealt with, or at least explained. The radio is not perfect, I know that, and no one else should be surprised to find that out either.Regarding the delay when collecting control channel data: If that bothers some users then it is a legitimate concern for them. I'm certainly not trying to hide it. I will say I have never seen it cause any problem in my testing of the radio and I was never even aware of it except on a theoretical basis. But different users will have different priorities.
Concerning the audio: The radio only has a 2.5 inch speaker in it. I agree it doesn't sound nearly as good as you might expect of a radio like this. There is lots of room in the radio for a bigger speaker. You could easily put a 5 inch speaker in it and I imagine that would help a lot. The easiest thing to do is just use an external speaker. That's what I do and I think that it then sounds quite good. But I am mindful of the fact that this is a $350.00 radio and you shouldn't have to do anything to it to get good audio. Like I said, it's NOT a perfect radio or a perfect world.
Keep the questions/complaints coming, I think we can all handle it here. That's one of the great things about this site; even the most heated arguments are paragons of civility compared to rec.radio.scanner and alt.radio.scanner.
