Is the 800MHz really that much better?

I've owned my 780 for several weeks now and have had the opportunity
to play around with most all bands, i.e., from 33.9MHz for a
local fire department all the way up to approx. 940Mhz for local
limo services. I've noticed that the 800MHz sensitivity IS
better than on my PRO-2067. However, I wouldn't day it's great
or "much" better. I've noticed also that there are a LOT of
posts about 800MHz antennas, 800MHz reception etc. I fully understand that 800MHz signals will always be tough to pull in due
to the nature of the beast but I thought that the 780 was supposed
to put a lot of those problems to rest. It's beginning to look
like I will have to resort to what I did before - use my Monitenna
along with a cellphone antenna coupled together with a Stridsberg
coupler. I was hoping that I could do away with that once I got
my 780 but I guess not. Am I missing something?
