I operate my 780 in my car.I have noticed no slowdown when scanning conventional frequencies which I have assigned CTCSS tones to. This is probably because one, I run mobile, and two, I have no other services sharing the same frequencys I listen to in the imediate area. (When I run the 780 at home with an outside antenna I have not experienced a slowdown either).I believe that is because I am fortunate to not be bothered by other legitamet traffic on the same frequency and certainly do not expirence the intermod problems like I did with the Relm. (I think the Relm is dual conversion whereas the 780 is triple conversion-helps when talking about intermod)I run a VHF fire dept. mobile transceiver and a amateur transceiver in my mobile setup and I find the 780 does a great job of not being bothered by either transciever overloading the front end or worse, a bleedthrough effect whereby the audio opens up and causes something like feedback when I am transmitting on the other radios. I have finally found a decent scanner receiver which will allow me to forget to turn it off or down every time I have to use either transmitter. It receives like gangbusters and I am saving a fortune by not having to add commercial recievers for each frequency I wish to listen to, which is what I would have to do so as not to be bothered by the above mentioned maladies. Even if I did expirence a 4 or 5 second reduction in time, the tradoff is well worth it!

hopes this help some..
