GRE is scanning all the voice channels looking at the subaudible handshake. As has been beaten to death here and elsewhere, that has many problems. The '780 is collecting data and it takes time for that data to be sent. This is no different than a Motorola transceiver which also jumps back to the control channel during pauses in the conversation. Of course those radios aren't used as scanners and the trunked systems weren't designed to accomodate scanners. You might miss a fraction of a second or so of of a conversation already in progress on another talk group after the talk group you are listening to is finished but you should fare at least as well as an actual subscriber unit where tracking a single conversation is concerned.
