Try moving the antenna, even a distance of few inches can mean receiving a signal or not. At 800mhz, the RF signal has a very short wavelength and is therefore much more prone to reflection and nulling. You have probably noticed this effect when using a hand-held scanner and moving it around. Just because an antenna is mounted outdoors, or high up, doesn't mean this problem doesn't occur. I use a dedicated, hi gain 800mhz antenna (ex cellphone base antenna) on the roof and I found that moving it a foot or so made a huge difference to the signal strength received at the scanner. |
