When I lived in Seattle, I had the same situation with a dense RF environment when using an external high gain antenna. The main problem was high power FM and some TV broadcast signals overloading the front end of my BC-9000 XLT and other scanners. I put in a FM broadcast filter and it solved the vast majority of my problems. If you add a notch filter(s) for the pager range(s) that's hitting you, that should improve things also. The other option is to just use the lower gain antenna.

Good luck.
