Richard: Thank you very much for the clarification on the "L" and "M" of the Screen Mask function.

All: I got up early this morning and decided to try what I'll call a mini or unofficial test of the BC780 vs my Pro-2067 installed in my vehicle. Please understand that I did not use any special equipment, but instead tried to do a simple side-by-side comparison.

I intentionally drove to a two square block area that is considered to be somewhat of a dead zone for our local EDACS trunked system. Local officers have a difficult time with hand-held radios in this small area. The Pro-2067 has difficulty in this area as well. When testing in this area this morning, with both the BC780 and Pro-2067 being used simultaneously and utilizing identical antennas, the BC780 HHANDS-DOWN had a significantly stronger signal, with FAR less "white noise" in the transmission. I drove to another area of this same dead zone and achieved the same results.

This certainly cannot be considered "official", but from my operating standpoint, it appears that the BC780 does a significantly greater job on 800MHz than the Pro-2067.

Test Number Two… I have a particular area of the house that I will, at times, utilize a base scanner with just the supplied antenna (ran 6 coax feeds to the shack, but nowhere else in the house). When comparing the BC780 with just the supplied stock antenna with the BC895 and BC245, the BC780 again appeared to have stronger signals with less “white noise” on conventional frequencies as well as the same EDACS system mentioned above. I did not do any antenna swapping; therefore I am not certain if the better results by the BC780 were as a result of the BC780 having a better stock antenna than the others or if it is the radio itself. If you take the mobile test that I did into consideration, I would say that it is a good possibility that it is the strengths of the radio.

A Very Happy BC780 Owner
