(I'm repeating my original points here, it looks like.)

Talkgroup lists in hex reveal the patterns used to program the system and can help you uncover talkgroups that you never knew existed. I posted an Excel 2000 workbook that lists both columns with sample data from real trunked systems. The patterns of police, fire, public works talkgroups become more evident in hex.

As to the so-called "status bits", they are not seen in programming sheets; the radio knows how to respond to them seperately. In hex they are easily seen and understood; in decimal they just change the numbers around and leave you and the radio thinking "What the--?"
Another mess that could have been avoided, in my opinion. I certainly hope that Motorola hasn't copyrighted hexadecimal notation, for goshsakes!

Most (not all, mine showed hex) sites show talkgroups in decimal because that's what Uniden and GRE chose to use in their scanners. It was nothing more than monkey-see-monkey-do. Not a good reason, in my book.

I just thought I would ask here since some principals involved in the production of the scanner might have some insight into this. I realize most people are happy dealing with decimal notation since that's all they have ever known.
