No, it's a little different that that. If I put in just 08- tagged
with Highway Dept, then when I SCAN, anybody with 08-xxx will
cause their exact AFS to appear, such as 08-021, 08-022, etc.,
along with the alpha tag "Highway Dept". That's just the way
I figured it should work. (Any partial match brings up the tag
that I entered along with the partial match designation.)But when I SRCH, if 08-021 talks, then the display shows 08-021
but the alpha tag for 08- isn't brought up. Instead I see
"EDCS ID: 08-021". Thus I see "08-021" in two places on the
display, and my Highway Dept tag is ignored.
It seems that if the radio can bring up the tag for the partial
match during SCAN, then it should be able to during SRCH too.
Maybe there's a good reason for this, but I sure can't think of one.
It makes displaying a meaningful tag difficult for vast, but uninteresting, talkgroups,
such as Highway Dept, where I'd like to handle it simply, rather
than program in 08-021, 08-022, 08-023, etc. with individual tags.
Well, maybe I'll just live with it. Other than that, the radio
is extremely good. It handles multiple trunking systems beautifully,
and the alpha tagging is wonderful (99% of the time!) If you like your
245 (as I do mine), you'll absolutely love the 780.
Thanks for your help on this.
